Alanis

Every now and then, I like to go back and check out a record that I didn't like when it was popular 10, 15, or 20 years ago. That way you can judge its merits without hype or marketing getting in the way. Starting now, I will share my findings with you to see if you agree. Contradictory opinions are welcome.

Recently a friend gave me a copy of Alanis Morrisette's first CD. I have listened to it start to finish a couple of times now. The thing that amazes me about this record is that it managed to sell millions despite that chick's annoying voice.

The only answer can be that the songs themselves are really quite good. They were mostly written and produced by a guy named Glen Ballard. He must be an F'n genius. To be able to overcome Morrisette's screeching and make a solid collection of tunes, is an honorable feat. Props to ya, bro!!! Overall, I give it a B+. Alanis gets a C-. She was gonna get a D but the one word she manages to sing well is "fuck."

End of the Tour!!

18 months of touring in support of full circle has come to an end.  My best guess is that it was over 350 shows.  Looking back, I'm proud to say that we brought our "A" game for every single one.  Not to say that they all were perfect.  But each was a unique experience.  My sincere thanks to everyone who came out and enjoyed a night with us.  Y’all will always be loved.  I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and let's do it all again next year!!!

Message from Stevie

Recently, the Associated Press, has stated that Drowning Pool’s music (among a slew of other songs) has been used "to create fear, disorient ... and prolong capture shock."

I would like to set the record straight to say that upon our return from Baghdad (in 2006) and after visiting our injured soldiers at the Walter Reed Medical Hospital, I commented to Spin Magazine that I take it as an honor to think that perhaps our music could be used to quell another 9/11 attack as part of a longer comment.  I sincerely regret if my statement was taken out of context as supporting any specific policy or agenda. My remarks were an emotional reaction to the band's personal experiences. The band’s intention has been, and will always be, to support our young men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line every day.  Our performances for soldiers abroad led to the honor of being able to speak before Senate and Congressional leaders in support of extended health care rights for our returning veterans. We cherish this distinction and continue to maintain a close relationship with our military personnel and their families.

We would like to wish everyone a healthy and happy holiday season.

Ozzfest - Dallas

Trying to write this on my phone with 1 1/2 thumbs isn't the easiest thing in the world. I catch myself speeding right along just to find out that the old nub has hit about 101 wrong letters so please look past any completely fuct up words. The real fun thing for u is that I can't spell worth a shit in the first place. For anyone that usually reads my brain droppings from time to time, the spelling thing isn't news.
Yesterday was Ozzfest in Big D and I want to thank everyone that came to the Texas stage and tore it up with us. We had a blast. A hot god damn blast but a blast just the same. I think one of my personal highs of the show was before we even took the stage. The gentleman that announced us, I'm guessing a bit clouded, went into the presentation. As he did he started talking about Dez and Devil Driver. Didn't think much about it until I realized he was a bit confused as he started trying to get the crowd to chant "Devil Driver". I stood back stage thinking "oh shit, what the fuck." But then it happened. The crowd started chanting back to him "Drowning Pool". I just had to start laughing. Felt good to know the people out there that allow us to do what we do knew exactly who was coming up next and was there @ that moment to see us. THANK YOU!!!
Ya'all kicked ass and continued to throughout our set. Talking to all our friends in the other bands through the night everyone was blown away by the crowd all day long. Heard it was 102 degrees out but it felt about 120. But everyone there in the crowd brought it all day long.
I got to catch Ozzy's set and as always he, Mike and Zakk were balls on. I didn't stick around to watch Metallica as my attention span is a bit shorter due in part to a clearer state of mind that I'm trying out but from the bus area they sounded their always slamming selves.
In Fayettville Arkansas tonight which is always a good time.
Well I won't bore your asses with any more, besides my thumb and nub are tired. So in closing, thanx again to all you crazy fuckers that give us a job to do and a big god damn kudos to you completely insane peeps that tore it up @ Ozzfest.

Love
Peace
And Dime baby.
I'm out bitches
Ryan

Milwaukee Summerfest '08 + DPool's 37 Stitches = Lighters in the Air...

Let me explain, no no, too much to explain... let me sum up.
Last night the boys and I were a part of something super cool that we haven't seen in a long time. While playing 37 Stitches, in front an AWESOME Milwaukee crowd at Summerfest '08, there was a small sea of lighters and cell phones being held up in the sky! Now, I consider us to be a hard rock band, we aren't really known for playing slower stuff. That being said, When a band such as ourselves, with songs like Step Up, Bodies, Soldiers, Enemy, the like, spread our wings a bit and  throw a slower tune at ya, its awesome to see you guys digging on it!!!  THANKS SO MUCH for that! Believe me when I say that 37 is probably the bands favorite song for the reason that it is so different from what we normally do. And the fact that you guys dig it and let us put it out there means alot to us THANK YOU!

Tales from the Road

6/21

June 21st started as a good day.  We were all excited about a Saturday-night rock show in Toronto, Canada.  After some loud music, a lot of sweat, and a little blood, the show was done.  Next came the chance to meet a few fans and have a few drinks at the bar.  As time passed, I slowly made my way to the bus.  I knew I had better rest up for the big show in Montreal the next night.  The festival we were playing also featured Motley Crue, Anthrax, and Disturbed, just to name a few.

6/22

I dosed off sometime between 3 and 4am expecting to sleep the entire 6 hour drive to Montreal.  Around 7am I was woken by the sound of distressed voices.  I crawled out of my bunk to discover that we were still sitting in Toronto.  Our driver had been trying for a couple of hours to start the bus to no avail.

Now it was too late to make the drive and get there by our load-in time.  So, band and crew (still half asleep) gathered all the gear we could carry and made a mad dash to the airport to try to make the 9:30 flight to Montreal.

As I came through security, they were closing the doors to our flight, forcing me into the embarrassing act of running down the terminal yelling “HOLD THE DOOR!!!!!”  Luckily, they were very understanding and let us all on the plane at the last possible second.

Once in Montreal, our first experience was a cab driver who screamed at us in French all the way to the venue.  I think he was pissed at us because we weren’t exactly sure where we were going.  I guess cabbies don’t like vague directions.

Finally we arrived at the show and everything seemed like it was going to be ok.  That is until the first note of our set when I realized the bass rig I had borrowed wasn’t working.  Therefore, the bass had to be run directly to “front of house”.  This means that all 15,000 people in the crowd could hear the bass just fine but I couldn’t hear a single note onstage.  So, I have no idea how I played that day.  If it was sub-par, I apologize to everyone there.

Later in the dressing room, I took some time to chill after the crazy fuckin day.  I was just beginning to relax when the cause of our terrible day was revealed to me.  The fuckin bus was out of fuckin gas!!!!!!

Important Announcement

TEXAS ROCKERS DROWNING POOL

TO POSTPONE AUSTRALIAN DATES

New Tour To Be Announced Soon

(LOS ANGELES, CA)  --- Multi-Platinum selling Texas modern rockers DROWNING POOL will be rescheduling their much anticipated Australian dates while lead vocalist Ryan McCombs gets some vocal rest as prescribed by his doctors.  McCombs has been assured that his “strained vocal chords” will heal completely with time and rest.  The band are supporting their CD Full Circle and the hit single, “Enemy.”

“We look forward to coming to Australia and are sorry for any inconvenience our postponing the trip causes our fans.  Hopefully, the new dates will allow us to spend more time down there so that we really get to see and experience everything,” says lead vocalist McCombs.

The following dates will postponed: May 30 HQ Live in Adelaide, June 1 Palace Theater in Melbourne, June 3 Enmore Theater in Sydney and the Arena Complex in Brisbane.

Rock on the Range

The big Rock on the Range show was this past Sunday.  With so many friends and so many bands thru out the day, it was extremely difficult to stay somewhat sober until our set time.  Rev Theory, Bobaflex, Sevendust, Seether, 5FDP,  all good friends and all really good drinkers!!!  Of course the most fun of the day was the 40 minutes we spent on stage.  There is not a more amazing feeling than hearing thousands of people singing every word of every song!!!!!  So, with all my heart, thanks to  everyone in Columbus, Ohio for being  a part of an awesome day.....
